I was born in Basel on the 21st of July 1945 and was married in the same town in 1965. In the same year, my daughter Claudine came into the world, then in 1967 my son Beat. As far back as I remember, I have been preoccupied with the idea of 'nightly experiences'. In my late adolescence, I read some works by Sigmund Freud and was surprised by the narrow perspectives in the "world of Dreams" described therein, because I was already having lucid dreams and out of body experiences at that time. The excerpts from "Memories, Dreams, Reflections" (by C.G. Jung) that appeared in 'World Week' reminded me of my own experiences. In order to get to know the world of science, I studied Biology, Physics and Chemistry until 1965 up to the last practicals. I didn't do a final exam in the form of a doctorate; instead I studied Ethnology and a few other subjects and visited the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich. It so happened that lucid dreaming and out of body experiences could be classified neither within predefined boundaries of Science or of Complex Psychology. Therefore, I gave up the idea of training to be an Analyst or Psychotherapist. Thus I worked at a private High School as a part time Biology Teacher, worked with my experiences and rummaged through libraries. That was only possible while my wife was able to actively contribute to the household income. Then, in 1980, the first loss of physical abilities began and in 1987 came the definitive diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, leading to retirement. We had to move from Allschwil (near Basel) because of the air. Now in March 1996 I am sitting in a wheelchair writing these lines from Sedrun. The illness gives me the chance - as far as my strength allows -to occupy myself almost exclusively with the area of 'nightly experiences'. (In April 1997 we moved to Arosa.)
